Text: Proverbs 3:5–6
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
It is relatively easy to choose between good and evil because the difference is often obvious. However, the real test of discernment comes when we must choose between two good things that appear equally attractive. It could be two promising jobs offering similar salaries or choosing a life partner from among equally attractive, godly, and spiritually committed believers. In such situations, making the right choice requires more than human reasoning.
This is where the grace of discernment becomes essential. God sees the hearts of men, knows our future, and understands us better than we understand ourselves. While we may be impressed by outward appearances and immediate benefits, God sees the hidden details and long-term consequences. That is why Proverbs 3:5–6 instructs us to trust in the Lord rather than lean on our own understanding, allowing Him to direct our paths.
Beloved, the fact that something is good does not mean it is good for you as an individual; and it doesn’t necessarily mean it is God’s best for you. Not every attractive opportunity is your divine opportunity, and not every open door is a door you should enter. Ask God for wisdom and discernment before making life-changing decisions.
Prayer Nugget: Father, grant me the grace to discern correctly in every decision I make. Help me to recognize Your perfect will and choose what is best according to Your purpose for my life, in Jesus’ mighty name.
Bible in One Year: Luke 9–10
