Text: Isaiah 66:1–2, 5
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
Many of us have become so familiar with certain important scriptures that we have lost the weight and significance of their meaning. We quote them so frequently that they no longer stir our hearts or move us to obedience. Yet God declares in Isaiah 66:2, “But to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”
Some of us even sing God’s Word in songs, but have reduced sacred truths to mere musical lyrics without a corresponding sense of urgency, reverence, or responsibility. We sing about holiness without pursuing holiness, forgiveness without forgiving others, and obedience without submitting to God’s instructions. When familiarity with the Word no longer produces obedience, we must examine the condition of our hearts.
To tremble at God’s Word is to hold it in reverence, take His instructions seriously, repent when corrected, and obey even when obedience is uncomfortable. Isaiah 66:5 speaks of those who tremble at God’s Word, reminding us that genuine reverence for God must go beyond hearing and speaking His Word. Beloved, when last did a scripture convict you, correct you, or cause you to change your ways?
Prayer Nugget: Father, deliver me from taking Your Word for granted. Restore in me a contrite heart that trembles at Your Word, responds to Your correction, and obeys Your instructions wholeheartedly, in Jesus’ mighty name.
