Exhortation:

You may wonder why many people hear divine warnings—through God’s Word, through conviction in their hearts, or even through godly counsel—yet still proceed on paths that lead to destruction. The answer often lies in the nature of the human mind, which tends to exalt itself, leaning heavily on personal reasoning and limited understanding, even when these contradict divine instruction, as seen in Proverbs 14:12.

Scripture reminds us that “there is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” What appears logical or convenient may ultimately be harmful when it is not aligned with God’s will. This is because, as Jeremiah 17:9 reveals, the heart can be deceitful, and without divine guidance, it can mislead even the sincere.

Human wisdom is finite, shaped by time, emotions, and incomplete knowledge, but God declares in Isaiah 55:8–9 that His thoughts and ways are far higher than ours. This means that what makes sense to us may not reflect God’s perfect plan, and only a renewed mind, as encouraged in Romans 12:2, can discern His will accurately.

Consider the life of Job in Job 1–4; despite intense trials, he refused to charge God foolishly. Rather than relying on human reasoning, he maintained reverence for God. This posture preserved him, showing that humility before divine wisdom protects us from deeper error.

Prayer Nugget: Father, deliver me from self-deception and help me trust Your wisdom above my own understanding.
