Exhortation:

October is a month of freedom. As Nigeria celebrates another Independence Day, we are reminded that freedom is more than being released from external control; it is also the liberty to live according to God’s will. A nation may gain political independence, yet individuals can remain bound by sin, destructive habits, fear, anger, bitterness, lust, greed and other works of the flesh.

Jesus declared, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” True freedom begins with Christ. The greatest liberty is not simply the absence of restrictions, but the power to say no to sin and yes to righteousness. When Christ sets a person free, the chains of the old life lose their authority, and the believer receives grace to walk in newness of life.

As we celebrate Nigeria’s independence, let us also pray for the freedom of our nation from corruption, injustice, insecurity, poverty, violence and every force that hinders national progress. May Nigeria experience the freedom that produces peace, justice, responsible leadership and prosperity for her people.

This October, may Christ break every chain around your life, and may Nigeria move forward in righteousness, peace and true freedom.
