Exhortation:
Working out your salvation involves more than professing faith in Christ; it also requires making right the wrongs of the past wherever possible. Restitution is a biblical expression of genuine repentance. It demonstrates a sincere desire to obey God by correcting past mistakes and living with integrity before Him and before men.
Zacchaeus is a remarkable example of this principle. After encountering Jesus, he voluntarily declared, “If I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold” (Luke 19:8). His willingness to make restitution proved that his repentance was genuine. A transformed heart will always produce transformed actions.
As much as it lies within your power, return what does not belong to you, fulfil your obligations, and seek to restore broken relationships where appropriate. The Scripture says, “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another” (Romans 13:8). A clear conscience before God and man brings peace, strengthens your testimony, and removes unnecessary hindrances to your spiritual growth.
Action Nugget: Prayerfully examine your life today. If there is anyone you have wronged, anything you need to return, or any matter requiring restitution, take practical steps to make it right.
