Text : Matthew 6:19–21
Author : Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation :
Scripture makes it clear that giving to the poor is not just an act of kindness—it is an investment in eternity. The Bible says he that gives to the poor lends to the Lord, and God takes such actions personally (Proverbs 19:17). When you meet the needs of the vulnerable, you are honoring God directly.
Though we brought nothing into this world and will take nothing out, Jesus taught that we can lay up treasures in heaven. Earthly riches are temporary and subject to loss, but heavenly treasures are eternal and secure (1 Timothy 6:7; Matthew 6:19–20). What you give for God’s sake is never lost—it is preserved in eternity.
There is a direct connection between generosity and eternal rewards. When you give to the poor, it is like transferring your wealth into a heavenly account. Jesus told the rich young ruler to give to the poor and have treasure in heaven, showing that giving has eternal implications (Matthew 19:21).
At the end of time, God will reward acts of kindness done to others as though they were done to Him. Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and caring for the needy are all recognized as service unto Christ (Matthew 25:34–40). Let your life be marked by generosity, knowing that what you invest in others will speak for you in eternity.
Prayer Nugget : Father, give me a compassionate heart; help me to invest in eternity through generosity and to reflect Your love to the needy, in Jesus’ name.
Bible in One Year : Job 35–38
