Exhortation:
What do you do when nobody is watching? Are you the same person in private that you present to the public, or is there a hidden version of you that others never see? Reputation is what people think you are, but character is who you truly are when no one is watching. God is not merely interested in our public image; He examines the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
This was the problem of the Pharisees. Jesus exposed their hypocrisy because they carefully maintained an impressive religious appearance while their hearts remained corrupt. He compared them to “whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones” (Matthew 23:27). They had an outward form of godliness, but their private lives did not reflect the holiness they publicly professed.
God sees what people cannot see. “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:14). Nothing is truly hidden from Him. Why not come to Christ exactly as you are? Allow Him to expose, forgive, cleanse, and transform you from within, so that your private life will become as pleasing to God as your public testimony.
Prayer Nugget: Father, please, search my heart and transform my character from within. Help me to live a holy life whether anyone is watching or not, in Jesus’ name.
