Text: Luke 14:28–32
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
Your level of preparation is determined by the scope of what you intend to achieve. Someone planning to build a skyscraper must prepare more than someone planning to build a three-storey building, just as the latter must prepare more than someone building a bungalow. The greater the vision, the greater the preparation required.
Jesus illustrated this principle in Luke 14:28–32, where a man planning to build a tower must first count the cost. Many fail in life because they leave things to chance or underestimate the preparation required to achieve their goals. Faith is not an excuse for poor planning; wisdom demands adequate preparation.
The taller a building must rise, the more attention must be given to its foundation. Consider the gestation periods of a rat (about three weeks), a dog (about two months), a cow (about nine months), and an elephant (about twenty-two months). Different animals have different gestation periods, reminding us that growth and development take time. The bigger the expected offspring, the longer the preparation takes.
Do not envy another person’s results without considering the preparation behind them. Ask God for wisdom to plan your today and tomorrow, and invest the discipline, knowledge, and effort your vision requires. How prepared are you for what you are asking God to do in your life? Your preparation today can influence your results tomorrow.
Prayer Nugget: Father, grant me wisdom to plan diligently and prepare adequately for the opportunities You bring my way. Deliver me from carelessness and procrastination, and help me build a solid foundation for my future, in Jesus’ mighty name.
