Exhortation:

There are numerous prophetic declarations in Scripture concerning the last days. Prophets such as Daniel and Joel spoke about them, as did the apostles Paul and John, and our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. These prophecies reveal both the dangers that will characterise the last days and the glorious things God will accomplish among His people.

Paul warned in 2 Timothy 3:1–7 that “in the last days perilous times shall come.” He described a generation characterised by self-love, covetousness, pride, disobedience, unthankfulness, unholiness, love of pleasure more than love for God, and a form of godliness without its power. Jesus likewise warned that many would be offended, false prophets would arise, iniquity would abound and the love of many would wax cold. Yet He gave us this encouragement: “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13).

But the last days are not only associated with negative prophecies. There are also glorious promises. Acts 2:17 declares, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh.” God has promised an outpouring of His Spirit, spiritual manifestations, salvation and divine visitation.

While we cannot choose which prophetic events will occur, we can choose how we will live in the midst of them. We must refuse to participate in the wickedness Scripture warns about and position ourselves to experience the promises of God.

Let us not use the negative prophecies of the last days as an excuse for disobedience; rather, let us key into the good purposes of God and pray that His promises will be fulfilled in our lives and families.

Prayer Nugget: Father, in the midst of the realities of the last days, keep me and my household from the evil that Scripture warns about. Let my love for You never grow cold. Pour out Your Spirit upon me and my family in Jesus’ name.
