Exhortation:
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). God has given the tongue a vital role in His plan of redemption. Faith begins in the heart, but it is expressed through confession. A believing heart and a confessing mouth work together to bring a person into the experience of salvation.
The thief on the cross illustrates this beautifully. While hanging beside Jesus in his final moments, he acknowledged Christ’s innocence, confessed his own guilt, and cried, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom” (Luke 23:42). That sincere confession opened the door to eternal life, and Jesus replied, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). He enjoyed the fruit of his lips even at the closing moments of his life.
A closed mouth may sometimes become a closed destiny. Therefore, never be ashamed to confess Christ, declare God’s promises, and speak words that agree with His truth. The same mouth that confesses Jesus as Lord should continually proclaim faith, hope, and life, because God honours words that flow from a heart that truly believes.
