Exhortation:
Jesus made the evidence of genuine love for Him unmistakably clear: “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Love for Christ is therefore more than words, emotions, songs, or religious activities; it is demonstrated through obedience. We cannot sincerely claim to love Jesus while deliberately living in disobedience to His Word.
Loving Jesus also means refusing to make the world our master. Scripture says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world” (1 John 2:15). The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life compete with our love for God and gradually draw the heart away from Him. Whatever consistently takes God’s rightful place in our affection has become an idol.
The world and everything it offers are passing away, but “he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:17). So, the question is not merely, Do you say that you love Jesus? The deeper question is: Does your lifestyle prove it? Loving Him means shunning worldliness, obeying His Word, and making pleasing Him the supreme pursuit of your life.
Genuine love for Christ must also overflow into love for others, especially the poor, vulnerable, and less privileged. When we care for those in need, we demonstrate the love of God that has been poured into our hearts. “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again” (Proverbs 19:17).
Prayer Nugget: Father, please, deliver me from the love of the world and its attractions, and help me to love what You love and faithfully do Your will, in Jesus’ name.
