Exhortation:
At times, Jesus instructed those He healed not to publicise their miracles( Matthew 9:29-31; Mark 1:40-44). His intention was not to seek the applause of men but to simply be a blessing and to bring glory to the Father. His ministry teaches us that our good works do not become more valuable because people know about them; what matters is that God sees and approves them.
Jesus therefore warned us against performing acts of charity merely to be seen by others. “Your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matthew 6:4). The same principle applies to prayer and devotion: genuine spirituality is not a performance for public admiration but a sincere relationship with God, especially when no one else is watching.
We should never live for the applause of men because earthly recognition is temporary, but God’s reward is eternal. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ” to receive what is due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10). Let us therefore serve, give, pray, and obey God sincerely, knowing that nothing done for Him in secret is ever hidden from His eyes.
Prayer Nugget: Father, please help me to do what pleases You even when no one is watching, knowing that You see and reward every faithful deed, in Jesus’ name.
