Text: Hebrews 1:9; Proverbs 6:16-19
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
Loving God goes beyond appreciating His blessings; it also means embracing His values. Just as we are called to love what God loves, we must also hate what He hates. Hebrews 1:9 says of Christ, “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God… has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your companions.” A heart that truly loves God cannot be comfortable with sin.
Jesus commended the church in Ephesus because they hated “the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate” (Revelation 2:6). The Nicolaitans promoted moral compromise, idolatry, and sexual immorality—practices that corrupted the purity of God’s people. God expects His children to reject every teaching, habit, or lifestyle that contradicts His holy Word, no matter how popular or culturally acceptable it may seem.
Proverbs 6:16–19 lists some of the things God hates: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run to evil, a false witness, and one who sows discord among brethren. Let us examine our hearts daily and ask the Holy Spirit to uproot every trace of these sins. As we love righteousness and hate evil, we become more like Christ and position ourselves to enjoy God’s favour and abiding presence.
Prayer Nugget: Father, give me a heart that loves righteousness and hates every form of evil. Purify my thoughts, words, and actions, and help me to live a life that pleases You always, in Jesus’ name.
