Text: 1 John 4:7-8
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
One of the distinguishing marks of God’s true children is their love for Him and for one another. The Apostle John wrote, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God… He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:7–8). Genuine love is not merely expressed in words but is demonstrated through obedience to God and a life that reflects His character.
To love God is to love what He loves and hate what He hates. It means rejecting worldliness and refusing to embrace values that oppose His will. The Scripture declares, “Friendship with the world is enmity with God” (James 4:4). A heart that truly loves God cannot be comfortably attached to the sinful pleasures and priorities of this world.
Jesus perfectly demonstrated His love for the Father when He declared, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34). Our greatest delight should also be to please God by obeying His Word, loving others sincerely, and faithfully carrying out the assignment He has entrusted to us.
Prayer Nugget: Father, fill my heart with genuine love for You and for others. Help me to reject every form of worldliness and delight in doing Your will in Jesus’ name.
