Text: 2 Samuel 24:10–15

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

Imagine you are in a car driven by a chauffeur, yet you begin to wish the driver evil simply because you dislike him. Or picture yourself on an airplane, hoping the pilot does not land safely because of personal bias. This may sound strange, yet it reflects what many do when they curse or wish evil upon their leaders.

Every right-thinking passenger desires a safe landing regardless of personal feelings toward the driver or pilot. This is because if the one in control goes down, everyone connected to that journey is affected. In the same way, whether we like our leaders or not, our safety and well-being are tied to their decisions and outcomes.

The Scriptures reveal how leadership decisions can impact an entire nation, as seen when David numbered Israel (2 Samuel 24:10–15; 1 Chronicles 21:1–14). Though it was the king’s personal error, about seventy thousand men perished as a result of that single act. This shows that private decisions of leaders can have widespread consequences on the people they govern.

The Bible also declares, “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered” (Zechariah 13:7).
If the enemy desires to destabilize a nation, targeting its leadership becomes a strategic point of attack. Therefore, wisdom demands that we pray for our leaders, covering them so that their decisions align with God’s purpose.

Prayer Nugget: Father, please, preserve our leaders from error and let their decisions bring peace and not suffering to the people in Jesus name.
