Text: 1 Timothy 2:1–2

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

One of the reasons we must pray for our leaders is because the Word of God commands it, urging that supplications and intercessions be made for all, especially those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1–2). This instruction is not optional but a divine responsibility placed upon every believer. Through obedience, we align ourselves with God’s will for peace, order, and godliness in the land.

We must also understand that the spiritual controls the physical, and nothing happens in the visible without roots in the unseen. The Scripture says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord… He turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 21:1). Through prayer, we invite God to influence decisions, replacing confusion with wisdom and establishing righteousness.

There are unseen forces that seek to manipulate leaders to serve ungodly interests and personal agendas. The Bible shows how leaders can be influenced negatively (2 Samuel 24:1; 1 Chronicles 21:1), but prayer can overturn such control. Consistent intercession becomes a shield, preserving leaders from error and redirecting them to God’s purpose.

When leaders are guided by God, the people experience peace, stability, and progress.
Scripture affirms that when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice (Proverbs 29:2).
Therefore, let us remain faithful in praying for our leaders, trusting God to guide them in truth, justice, and wisdom.

Prayer Nugget: Father, please, guide the hearts of our leaders and establish your righteousness in every decision they make in Jesus name.
