Exhortation:

I had a friend during my undergraduate days who always visited me only when he needed something. Each time he visited I always knew he needed something. And funny enough, once he got what he wanted he would always get up almost immediately and leave; only to visit again when he had a need.

What will be your opinion about a friend who only calls you when he needs something? No wonder some people are reluctant to pick the calls of some callers. Infact, some may even go to the extent of avoiding such callers or outrightly blocking them.

Good relationships are meant to be mutual not one sided. If it is one sided, then it is not symbiotic. Our dealings with the Lord should not be based only on what we can get but also what we can give or what we can sacrifice. Sacrifice doesn’t always have to be monetary or material but it must cost you something- 2 Samuel 24:22-25.

When you understand the importance of sacrifice, your relationship with God will move to the next level.

One of the things that launched Solomon to the limelight was his understanding of this concept. He gave God unusual sacrifices that provoked the Almighty to appear to him twice.

When he was given a blank cheque and had a rare opportunity to ask for what he wanted,  he impressed the Lord with his request because he was selfless (sacrificial) in it- he didn’t ask for riches, long life or victory over enemies but he asked for wisdom to administer justice and rule the people of God- 1 Kings 3:1-15.

He was always looking for what to give, no wonder the good things other people pursued began to pursue. Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness and other things shall be added unto you.

Key Nugget: When you understand the importance of sacrifice, your relationship with God will move to the next level.
