Text: Matthew 23:11-12
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
God’s definition of greatness is different from ours. In his school of greatness he doesn’t raise bosses but leaders. When Israelites asked for a king in the order of the world, God sent Samuel to warn them that worldly kings were bosses and not leaders- 1 Samuel 8:4-22. Leaders lead by example while bosses just issue decrees without necessarily doing much to make compliance easy.
When the disciples were fighting among themselves on who was the greatest among them, the Lord caught wind of it and corrected them saying, “The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:11-12
Service is a key module or core course in God’s School Of Greatness. You want to be great? Get ready to serve and not be served. To serve is to sacrifice your energy, resources, time, and sometimes even your ego and dignity in order to advance God’s kingdom.
We are commanded to daily deny ourselves, carry our crosses and follow Christ- Luke 9:23. We are to daily bear the burden of kingdom advancement in our individual capacities. Burdens are not pleasurable to carry but his grace is sufficient for us. We are to serve the Lord with his joy being our strengths.
As stewards, we are to serve God faithfully- when it is convenient and when it is not. We do it whether we feel like it or not.
Your labour of love in his vineyard will surely be rewarded; it can never be in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58.
Prayer Nugget: Father, grant me the heart of faithful service to advance your kingdom in Jesus name.
