Text: Mark 12:41–44
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
The things we often consider insignificant may be very significant in the sight of God. When Jesus observed people giving their offerings in the temple, the rich gave large amounts, but a poor widow gave only two mites. Yet, Jesus declared that she had given more than all the others because they gave out of their abundance, while she gave all she had (Mark 12:41–44). Heaven’s assessment is not based on the size of your gift, but on the heart and sacrifice behind it.
Therefore, never allow the achievements, wealth, or influence of others to intimidate you. God is your Judge, not men, and He sees what others may overlook. Even when nobody applauds your efforts or recognises your contributions, continue to do your best according to the grace and capacity God has given you. As Galatians 6:9 encourages us, do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you shall reap if you faint not.
God does not demand that you give what you do not have or go beyond the capacity He has given you (2 Corinthians 8:12). Do not allow the devil to imprison you with inferiority or make you despise your little beginning. You may be unnoticed by people, but you are never hidden from God. Faithfulness in your little corner is precious to the God who sees in secret and rewards openly (Matthew 6:4).
Consider the widow of Zarephath: a poor woman with only a little flour and oil, yet God chose her to sustain Elijah during the famine (1 Kings 17:8–16). Without that divine assignment, her story might never have been recorded in Scripture. What a privilege it is to become God’s instrument for meeting the needs of His servants and His people! Jesus assures us that whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of His little ones because they belong to Him will certainly not lose their reward (Matthew 10:42). Never despise your little contribution; in God’s hands, it can become part of a story with eternal significance.
Prayer Nugget: Father, deliver me from inferiority, comparison, and the desire for human applause. Help me to remain faithful with whatever You have placed in my hands in Jesus’ mighty name.
