Text: Matthew 13:8, 23
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
A cultivated heart is a heart that is open and responsive to the Word of God. It is a humble and contrite heart that trembles at God’s Word and respects His authority. Such a heart responds repentantly to God’s warnings, rebukes, and chastisements rather than resisting His correction. It does not resist God; instead, it submits to God and resists the devil. The condition of your heart determines how you respond when God speaks.
In the parable of the sower, the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear the Word, understand it, and bear fruit—some thirtyfold, some sixtyfold, and some a hundredfold (Matthew 13:8, 23). A cultivated heart does not merely hear the Word of God; it receives, nurtures, and obeys it. The Word takes root, transforms the heart, and produces visible fruits of righteousness, obedience, love, and spiritual maturity.
The evidence of a cultivated heart is not merely how much of God’s Word you know, but how much of it is producing fruit in your life.
A cultivated heart is also a humble heart that does not make excuses for sin. When King Saul disobeyed God’s command, he attempted to justify his actions rather than accept responsibility (1 Samuel 15:15–24). David, on the other hand, demonstrated genuine repentance when confronted with his sin, crying out for God’s mercy and cleansing (Psalm 51:1–4, 17).
Beloved, when God’s Word exposes your faults, do you defend yourself like Saul or humble yourself before God like David? A heart that is truly cultivated does not excuse sin; it confesses, repents, and turns back to God.
Prayer Nugget: Father, please, let Your Word take deep root in my heart and produce abundant fruits of righteousness, obedience, and genuine repentance in Jesus’ mighty name.
