Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:19–22
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence and power at work in the believer. Scripture commands, “Quench not the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19). We quench the Spirit when we repeatedly resist His promptings, ignore His warnings, disobey His Word, or allow the flesh and worldly desires to take control of our lives.
The Spirit may prompt you to pray, forgive, apologise, give, witness, separate yourself from ungodly influences, or take a particular step of obedience. Do not silence that voice through excuses and delay. Every time we obey, our sensitivity to the Spirit increases; every time we deliberately resist Him, our hearts become less responsive.
Therefore, do not grieve or quench the Holy Spirit. Keep your heart tender, your conscience clear, and your spirit yielded to God. Test everything by the Word, hold fast to what is good, and abstain from every form of evil. A Spirit-filled life is not merely about what we say in church but about consistently allowing the Holy Spirit to govern our thoughts, choices, words and actions.
Prayer Nugget: Holy Spirit help me never to quench Your fire or grieve Your presence, but let my life continually bring glory to God, in Jesus’ name.
Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 40–43
