Exhortation:
God’s Word is absolutely reliable. Scripture says, “Thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name” (Psalm 138:2). His name is a strong tower (Proverbs 18:10), and at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:9–11). If His name carries such authority, then His Word and promises can never fail.
God’s promises are trustworthy, but we have a part to play in appropriating them through faith, prayer, obedience, and persistent intercession. Learn to hold God by His Word by reminding Him of what He has spoken. Moses did this when God threatened to destroy Israel because of their idolatry; he appealed to God’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and “the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people” (Exodus 32:13–14). Isaiah 43:26 says, “Put me in remembrance: let us plead together.”
The Israelites would have spent only 400 years in captivity in line with the original divine arrangements but they ended up spending 430 years because they did not remind God when the 400 years were complete but only 30 years after. Genesis 15:3; Exodus 12:40–41.
The lesson is not that God forgets His promises, but that we should faithfully bring His Word before Him in prayer and trust His timing. Never allow delay to make you abandon God’s promise. When you know what God has said, stand upon it, pray it, and refuse to let go of His Word.
Action Nugget: Identify one clear promise of God concerning your life, find the Scripture that establishes it, and begin to pray it back to God consistently with faith, obedience, and perseverance.
