Text: 2 Samuel 3:1
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David, yet David kept waxing stronger while Saul’s house grew weaker. The secret behind David’s rise was not military strategy but divine presence. 1 Chronicles 11:9 reveals the key: the Lord of hosts was with him.
The presence of God is the ultimate game changer in life’s battles. When God surrounds a man, opposition cannot successfully overthrow him. Anyone who must defeat David would first have to defeat the God protecting him—an impossible task.
David understood this mystery, which is why he cultivated a life of deep fellowship with God. He prayed, worshipped, meditated on God’s Word, and continually sought the face of his Defender. His strength on the battlefield was rooted in his intimacy in the secret place.
At first David sought the Lord three times daily—“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17). Later he progressed to praising God seven times a day—“Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments” (Psalm 119:164).
Eventually he resolved to bless the Lord at all times—“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1), while his soul longed for God “as the deer pants for the water brooks” (Psalm 42:1).
Beloved, if we must grow stronger and stronger in life, we must carry God’s presence continually. Those who seek Him with all their hearts will surely find Him (Jeremiah 29:13). When God is with you, your strength will increase while every opposition will gradually fade.
Prayer Nugget: Father, I ask for the grace to thirst and hunger for your presence continually. Let your presence make me stronger and stronger in life in Jesus name.
