Text: Hebrews 5:7-11
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
Those who didn’t attend God’s School of Greatness but find themselves in positions of greatness end up disappointing God. An example was Saul, the first king of Israel was the son of a rich man called Kish. He never prepared for the greatness thrust on him. Eventually, he lost out a few years into his 40-year reign- 1 Samuel 13:13-14. For the greater part of his reign he was rejected by God and suffered from the torment of an evil spirit. He eventually committed suicide and perished in the hands of his enemies.
King Solomon did not pass through God’s refining furnace of affliction and hardships like his father. He had no record of suffering or difficulties before he became king. Everything was easy for him and the kingdom was placed in his hands on the platter of gold. So he missed the classes the School of Greatness would have taught him.
He tried to make up for that by asking God for supernatural wisdom which he got; however, along the line, he backslid terribly into idolatry even though the Lord Almighty had appeared to him twice. Unfortunately, God raised adversaries to attack him and eventually tore a greater part of the kingdom away from his ancestral lineage- 1 Kings 11.
As an example for us, our Lord Jesus Christ was not exempted from the School Of Greatness. He had to attend the school because he was one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man. He was both the Son Of God and the Son of Man.
In order to be our high priest who can relate with our human frailties and infirmities he had to attend the school. Concerning him the word of God says, “Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” Hebrews 5:8-9
If our Lord Jesus needed to attend the School Of Greatness, we all need it even more.
Prayer Nugget: Father, by your mercy, help me to be made perfect in your School of Greatness in Jesus name.
