Text: Proverbs 22:1; 10:7
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
The foundation of a building determines its strength and durability. The foundation carries the entire weight of the building and transfers it safely to the ground. Without a strong foundation, the structure will fail.
The name of the Lord is compared to a strong tower into which the righteous runs and is safe-Proverbs 18:10. For that tower to be so strong it must have had a formidable foundation- a foundation built with humility and obedience to the will of God, the Father. No wonder every knee bows at the mention of his name- Philippians 2:10-11.
Your name is the foundation of your life. It’s what people first know about you, and it’s what they will remember when you’re gone.
You hear people say, “I don’t want to destroy the name I have been building for the past 50 years.” They thereby compare a name to a building. Your name is tied to your character and reputation.
When some people’s name comes to your mind you suddenly get inspired and encouraged to succeed in whatever you do. But when you hear some other names, you may feel discouraged or terrified. When people hear your name, what memory comes to their mind?
The word of God says, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1. Again, it says, “The memory of the just serves as blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. “Proverbs 10:7
When your life is a blessing to people, they remember your name with great joy and admiration. However, a life full of evil will elicit unpleasant memories in the minds of others.
Your name is more than just a word- it’s the very foundation of your life. Build it strong, and build it on Jesus.
Prayer Nugget: Father, thank You for giving me a name and an identity. Help me to live in a way that makes my name a blessing to others. May my life be built on Jesus, the strongest foundation.
