Exhortation:

Leadership is about influence. Your level of influence is directly proportional to the quality of impact you make in the life of others. In other words your quantum of influence depends on how many lives you have touched. Here in lies true greatness.

There are some people who occupy positions of influence but are not influential. In the School of Greatness one of the lessons to learn is that to be influential you need to be selfless. The word of God says, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

Just as the Sun does not shine for itself but for the whole of humanity, you are not a leader to serve yourself but others. Be interested in the welfare of others.

When Rehoboam, the grandson of David was to be crowned king, the people complained to him about the harsh labor his father Solomon had placed on them. They requested him to lessen their burdens. He told them he wanted to make consultation and feed them back.

When he consulted with the elders of Israel, they answered him saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” 1 Kings 12:7

However, he turned their wise advice down and he lost out as the Israelites revolted and went to serve another leader who was ready to listen to them- 1 Kings 12:8-24.

Many leaders fail today because their impacts are not felt though they occupy positions of influence. There are fathers whose impacts are not felt by their children and wives. We have many politicians whose impacts are not felt by the citizens they claim to serve.

We have so many title and position holders in our neighborhoods, communities, and society in general but with very little or no impact. The reason is because everybody is looking to his own interests and care very little about serving the interests of others.

Prophetic Nugget: Receive the grace to make impact in your generation in Jesus name.

Bible in One Year: 1 Kings 8-9.
