Text: Isaiah 61:1-2
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
Another position the Holy Spirit is expected to rest in a believer is ‘on him’. In Isaiah 61:1-2a, says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
After the Lord Jesus Christ was baptized in the Jordan River, the Heavens were opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him as a dove. The anointing of the Holy Spirit on him started manifesting like never before. He began to teach God’s word with signs and wonders confirming the presence of God in his ministry- Matthew 4:23-25.
This was the testimony the Luke gave when he said, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38
When the lord was about to depart the earth in the flesh, he asked his disciples to ensure they get the anointing before they began their public ministry. In obedience, they all (about 120 of them) gathered in the upper room praying until the anointing fell on them like cloven tongues of fire and they began to speak with new tongues-Acts 2.
After this experience, their public ministry began to yield exponential results; souls were won in thousands and spectacular miracles backed them up- courtesy of the power of Holy Spirit (actively working) on them.
Key Nugget: The Holy Spirit on you translates to power for effective kingdom service.
