Exhortation:
The major purpose of the Holy Spirit on you is power. That power is to do what? It is first of all power to preach Christ to the unbelieving world with boldness. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Another essence of the power is to heal the sick, deliver the oppressed and set the captives free- Isaiah 61:1, says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.”
While preaching the gospel in an evil world, there is tendency to be endangered and attacked. The Lord again promised saying, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19.
After surviving a major ship wreck, Apostle Paul was once attacked by a viper on the island of Malta. The venomous snake was driven out by the heat of a fire he had made to warm himself and it fastened itself on Paul’s hand. The natives expected him to swell up and drop dead but Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. So after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god- Acts 28:1-3.
The Holy Spirit’s power on him nullified the effects of the bite of the serpent.
The lord Jesus Christ had promised that while preaching the gospel certain signs shall follow those that believe and are baptized: he said, “In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:15-18.
Action Nugget: Get up and get going; fulfill the great call upon your life. Ask that the power of the Holy Spirit should be made manifest in your life in Jesus name.
