Text: John 4:21-24
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
We are created to worship our Maker. Both living and non-living things give Him praise, and our worship brings Him pleasure. Worship is not limited to singing, clapping, or outward expressions alone; our daily obedience is itself an act of worship. Showing love toward God and extending love to our fellow human beings are equally powerful expressions of worship.
It is one thing to worship God, but it is another thing to worship Him acceptably. True worship must be offered in the way God desires. To worship God in spirit and in truth is to worship Him from the heart and according to His Word, not merely through outward forms or religious rituals.
Jesus declared, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). To worship in spirit is to worship from your inner being—your heart, soul, and regenerated spirit. It is sincere, living worship inspired by the Holy Spirit, flowing from love, reverence, and a genuine relationship with God.
To worship in truth is to worship in alignment with God’s revealed truth—His Word and His nature. It is worship rooted in who God truly is, not in human traditions, emotions, or personal preferences. Such worship approaches God with honesty, obedience, and faith in Christ, who is the Truth (John 14:6).
Worshiping God in spirit and in truth is authentic, heartfelt worship guided by the Holy Spirit and grounded in the Word of God—where the worshiper’s life, not just the lips, honors Him. This year, if you must enjoy God’s presence and power, make it a habit to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Prayer Nugget: Father, teach me to worship you acceptably. Let my worship flow from a pure heart, guided by your Spirit and grounded in your truth in Jesus’ name.
