Text: Genesis 12:1-9

Exhortation:
Another candidate of the Most High in the School of Greatness was Abraham. He was from an idolatrous background, a situation which could have been a great barrier in his relationship with God but he humbly submitted himself to be groomed.
He had his own limitations and challenges like we all have. What worked out easily in the life of others was difficult in the life of Abraham. As at the age of 99, his wife was still barren. Perhaps everybody had concluded that Abraham was going to die childless and his property would be inherited by non-family members.
However, in the School Of Greatness, age is not a barrier- Abraham enrolled into the school at the old age of seventy five when most people would have died and be forgotten-Genesis 12:1-4. A core course or major module he took in this school was Obedience- the ability to comply with divine instructions.
He was tested and tried and found to be a successful candidate. He not only obeyed God from time to time but he also did so promptly. Also his obedience was not partial like that of King Saul but total.
When he was asked to relocate from his family to an undisclosed location he did not delay but did so without hesitation- Genesis 12:1-9. God wanted to further test his compliance level, he asked him to circumcise himself and household, he did so early, even though painful- Genesis 17.
Again God asked him chase away his concubine Hagar and her son, Ishmael; he did so without wasting time- Genesis 21:8-21. As if that was not enough, he was given the most difficult examination on this course called obedience when he was asked to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, as a burnt offering- that was strange and fearful but, again, he obeyed as usual; even though God stopped him in the process- Genesis 22.
By the time God was through with him, he was already a great man- the father of faith and a standard of obedience.
Prophetic Nugget: Receive the grace for prompt and total obedience in Jesus name.
