Text: Matthew 13:44
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
The Kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that happens to find a treasure hidden in a field. He covers it up again, and is so happy that he goes and sells everything he has, and then goes back and buys that field- Matthew 13:44.
It must have been a tough decision. The man lost something good in order to get something better; he gave up something better in order to get the best.
Paul the Apostle wrote, “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.” In other words, one may say, “I have the right to do anything,” but not everything is beneficial. Another may say, “I am free to do anything”—but not everything is constructive or helpful- 1 Corinthians 10:23
For example eating of meat is not a sin but Paul was saying, he would rather deny himself and forego eating of the meat if doing so might make another believer to fall- 1 Corinthians 8:13. The salvation and spiritual welfare of the other believer is of more importance than his self pleasure.
Sacrifice comes with pain- physical or emotional. But the harvest is worth it. The word of God says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” 2 Corinthians 4:17.
Prayer Nugget: Father, I ask for the grace to endure the pain that comes with sacrifice in Jesus name.
