Exhortation:

The overall Landlord of the Earth is the Almighty God himself. He is the One who issues and signs the “Certificate of Occupancy” (C of O) for all the residents of the world. He can decide to issue it and he can also decide to revoke it at any time. Nobody can question his authority.

In today’s text, the Psalmist says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein, for He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.” Psalm 24:1-2

Those things we own are not really ours; we are just like Temporary Caretakers. Your salary, income, investments, property, spouse, children and even your life are not yours! The earlier we realized this, the better for us.

Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthian church asked, “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? 1 Corinthians 4:7b

If they are not ours, then it means we would give account of them to the Real Owner.

Jesus Christ told a parable of a rich but foolish man. This rich fool is a man with a prosperous farm, who has just had a bountiful harvest and had no more space to store the crops. He decided to build bigger barns that would accommodate the bountiful harvest so that he would take life easy and have those good things for many years. In response, God says to the man, “You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?” Luke 12:20

He lost his life that night because he was selfish and didn’t acknowledge the Giver of the gifts. If he had given thanks to God and remembered to share some of the excess with the poor and needy, his life would have been preserved.

Whatever God has put in your care, for example, your life and belongings are meant to be used for His pleasure and not yours.

Prayer Nugget: Father, thank you for my life and everything you have blessed me with. Help me to always be selfless and to please you with all my belongings in Jesus name.
