Text: Luke 22:39-45.
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
The devil is out to prove that God is a liar. He shoots the arrow of discouragement, sorrow, failure, disappointments etc especially against God’s bonafide children. What is his main purpose? Very simple. He wants you discouraged. Many have fallen into this trap and have backslidden.
Do you remember the story of Elijah? A highly anointed man who called fire from Heaven at will. He singled handedly arrested 450 false prophets of Baal and got them executed. The same man began to shiver because of the threat of a woman- Jezebel. He was so fearful to the extent that he asked God to take his life- 1 Kings 18-19.
Obviously, the devil was at work. Whenever, you feel discouraged, note that it is not from God; the devil is at work.
Is there anybody immune to this? Of course, no. the devil is no respecter of your Christian title. What do you do when you are under such attack from the devil? Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us the best example.
When he was about to go to the Cross of Calvary, his soul was filled with sorrow even to death. Three times he prayed that the Father should reconsider and cancel his original plan of the salvation of mankind.
He said, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39. In the Garden of Gethsemane, he prayed very well and gained more strength to carry on- Luke 22:39-45.
When you are discouraged, it is time to pray; it is time worship and tap into divine strength one more time. Victory shall be yours in Jesus name.
Prayer Nugget: Father, please, strengthen me; I come against every spirit of discouragement and despondency in Jesus name.
