Out of The Miry Clay

Text: Psalm 40:1-3

Exhortation:

There was a rainy Sunday I was returning from the visit of one of our church members and as I was driving back, I found my vehicle in the middle of a muddy area. I tried to accelerate out of it but when I did the tyres were just rolling on one spot and sinking deeper, splashing mud on the car. Even getting down from the car was an ugly option because the surrounding was a pool of muddy water. I was stuck!

I had to immediately place a call on my brethren around for help. It was not easy at all getting out of the miry clay. But after several efforts and trials we were able to get the vehicle out of it.

So I can relate to some extent with David when he said, “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” Psalm 40:1-2

The pit of miry clay represents a difficult and ugly situation in which one is helpless; at which time, every personal effort to get out sinks you deeper into the problem. At such a time we need to wait patiently in faith and prayer; firmly believing that help will come from above.

It is not a time to be afraid or confess negativity but a time to depend on the Most High whose right hand of deliverance is mighty to save. He has promised never to leave us or forsake us in the times of difficulty. Psalm 50:14-15, says, “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”

He will put a new song in your mouth as you call upon him in faith. If you have not surrendered your heart to Jesus Christ, why not do so now? This will guarantee that anytime you call on Him. He will be committed to answer by fire.

Prayer Nugget: Father, because you are the Most High, please, stretch forth your mighty hand of deliverance and bring me out of every pit of miry clay in Jesus name.
