Exhortation:
As we round off on these marital success series, it is important to note that the marital union instituted by God is a threat to the kingdom of Satan. I will explain why.
Our Lord Jesus Christ in today’s text says, “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. In the eighteenth verse, the Lord says, “Verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
In verse 20 the Lord concluded saying, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:19, 18, 20
This brings us to the tenth principle of marital success which is the Principle of Agreement Prayers. There is a saying that a family that prays together stays together. In the place of agreement prayers, the husband and wife in unity are a formidable force who wields great spiritual force against the kingdom of darkness.
This is the very reason why the enemy does everything to put the family asunder. We must therefore, do everything to keep the fire of the family altar burning. A hot stove does not harbor cockroaches. The powers of darkness find it difficult and impossible to carry out their evil agenda in a family that prays consistently in unity. We must, therefore, keep the unity of the marriage intact.
In 1 Peter 3:7, the word of God says, “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
Make it a habit to settle all disputes quickly. Offenses will always come, but forgive each other in advance and don’t allow unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, unresolved conflicts and other devices of the enemy to steal the love and unity in the family.
Action Nugget: Guard your family unity jealously; regularly pray together because a family that prays together stays together.
