Text: Daniel 4:33-37
Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan
Exhortation:
It is the nature of the human flesh to show off. Man is naturally boastful. He naturally wants to glory in himself, his status, possessions and personal achievements. The fallen man instinctively wants to live independently of God, depending on his own strength, wealth, connections and accomplishments.
He tends to seek honor, power and recognition from the world instead of humbling himself before God. He is all out to impress men rather than honour God.
We, therefore, need to crucify our flesh and totally subdue it otherwise, it will get us into trouble with God.
God is a jealous God. In fact, one of his names is Jealous- Exodus 34:14. He does not take it lightly when you ascribe the glory due to himself to yourself. It is dangerous to not recognize him as the author of all your achievements. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble- James 4:6.
The one who humbles himself sets himself up for lifting while the one who lifts himself is set up for abasement. Nebuchadnezzar, believed that all his military successes happened because he was very skillful and smarter than the other armies of the world. He never believed God had any role to play in his breakthroughs until God humbled him with 7 years of incurable insanity.
When he came back to his senses, he lifted up his eyes to Heaven and proclaimed, “Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” Daniel 4:37
It is wise to humble oneself because if you allow God to do it, it will result to humiliation. May we not be humiliated in Jesus name.
Key Nugget: We need to crucify our flesh and totally subdue it otherwise, it will get us into trouble with God.
