Text: 1 Samuel 24:1-13

Exhortation:

If you are the type of person that habitually pick hot things with your bare hands, after a while, you would notice that your palms become thick and resistant to heat. Similarly, many have trained their hearts to do evil such that over time their hearts have become deadened; they don’t feel remorse anymore, if they do anything evil. This is the unfortunate state of the hearts of many souls in the world.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate (depraved, corrupted, perverse) mind, to do those things which are not convenient.  Romans 1:28

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Genesis 6:5-6 says, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”

A heart that is alive and soft would be pricked if he ever does evil either by commission or omission. For example, David had a rare opportunity to kill his arch enemy, King Saul. His bodyguards pressurized him to take the king’s life while he was fast asleep, but he refused to fall into that temptation.

However, in order to prove to Saul that he actually had that opportunity, he decided to cut off part of the king’s skirt.  The word of God said, “And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt. And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” 1 Samuel 24:5-6

Action Nugget: Examine yourself and ask the Lord to take away every stony heart from you and give you a heart of flesh.
