Exhortation:

At the beginning of his earthly ministry, the followership of Jesus Christ was increasing and that of his forerunner, John the Baptist’s was decreasing his disciples were jealous and worried that they were losing their membership to Christ. Then John made the statement saying, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30.

That statement also means, “He must become greater; I must become less.” By this statement he exalted Christ and humbled himself. When we get out of the way and let God accomplish what He intends, then much is accomplished.

The flesh must be subdued and mortified in us if the Spirit of Christ must increase in us. Naturally, the human nature wants to seek for attention and show off. The popular worldly slogan is that, ‘If you have got it, flaunt it’. For example some ladies believe that if they have beautiful skins, they should wear skimpy clothes that will make the whole world see it. Men with athletic bodies also want to show it to the world by unbuttoning a half portion of their shirts.

When your major aim is to draw undue attention to yourself you are giving glory to yourself and not God. What you are doing is that you are claiming that all you have or have achieved are by your power and wisdom.

Paul the Apostle asks, “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

Testimony sharing must be with humility and not sound as though one is boasting. All that we do must be to the glory of God and not to draw attention to ourselves.

Prayer Nugget: I clothe myself with the garment of humility; from now on Christ must increase, while the flesh in me must decrease in Jesus name.
