Text: Numbers 23:19

Exhortation:

We serve a covenant keeping God. He speaks and it comes to pass. He is not a man that he should lie. He doesn’t have to. The word of God says, “God is not a man, that He should lie; nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” – Numbers 23:19.

People lie for several reasons and none of them apply to God.  For example, people lie for fear of consequences; People lie for fear of consequences; they lie because of a desire for unjust gain, to impress others or protect their ego; and generally as a human weakness. None of them apply to God. He is Sovereign doing as he pleases and no one can challenge him.

“His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?” Daniel 4:34-35.

God can be trusted because he cannot lie. He is truth personified- John 14:6. His is so pure that his holiness cannot permit him to lie- Titus 1:2. He has lifted his word above his name. Psalm 138:2

His word is yea and Amen. Human words can fail or become irrelevant with time but God’s word stands forever. What he says he will do. Has he made a promise to you? Remind him of his promises, he will surely fulfill his covenant in your life.

We must be trustworthy as he is trustworthy. A song writer says, “God said it, I believe it; that settles it.” Let this be our attitude from now on.

Reflective Nugget: People lie because of fear, weakness, and selfishness. But God cannot lie because He is perfect, holy, and faithful. When men fail us, His Word remains sure.
