Exhortation:

Most of us tend to relax and lose our guards during times of merriments, celebrations and festivities. The enemy knows this and so he carefully and strategically waits for this season before he strikes. We have several instances of such.

The only two birthday celebrations mentioned in the Bible are Pharaoh’s in Genesis 40:20-22 and king Herod’s in Matthew 14:6-12 and Mark 6:21-29, both of which were bloody being associated with executions.

King Ahasuerus lost his marriage during a period of merriment. When he was drunk and in high spirits, he made a hasty decision that led to the banishment of his beautiful Queen Vashti.-Esther 1:1-22.

Absalom, one of the sons of king David had a grudge with his elder brother, Amnon, because the he raped his beautiful sister, Tamar.  He kept quiet and waited for two years when it seemed Amnon had forgotten about it.

King David’s first born and heir apparent, Amnon, was struck dead while he was in high spirits being drunk from wine at a ceremony organized by his stepbrother, Absalom. The enemies attacked him when they were sure he was very vulnerable, careless and had let down his guards- 2 Samuel 13:23-38

Be careful, watchful and prayerful during merriments, seasons of celebrations and festivities. Many lives have been lost at such times. The word of God says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Prayer Nugget: Father, I receive the grace to be sober and vigilant always in Jesus name.

Bible in One Year: 2 Samuel 12-13
