Text: 1 John 4:7-11

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

In addition to Faith and Hope, the third essential in our walk with God is Love. Apostle Paul wrote, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.

Love, selfless love is greater than any spiritual gift.

If you want to summarize all God’s commandments into two sentences, it will be “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself”- Luke 10:27

Today’s text puts it this way, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” 1 John 4:7-11.

All our actions are weighed by God; he looks at the motives behind all we do. Actions motivated by love for God and humanity (not selfish interests or self recognition) carry God’s blessings and have eternal rewards.

If there is anything we need to daily pursue, it is to live a life of love.

Prayer Nugget: Father, I receive grace to love like Christ did in Jesus name.

Text: Romans 5:5-8

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

Besides Faith, the second essential Apostle Paul identified is Hope. Hope has the element of trust. Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary defines hope as, “To trust in, wait for, look for or desire something or someone; or to expect something beneficial in the future.” It is to ‘put confidence in’ or ‘to take refuge in’ someone or something.

The word of God warns us not to put our trust in riches, idols, foreign powers, military might, princes, other humans, beauty, education or personal achievements. In fact we are also warned not to put our trust or confidence in our own wisdom or understanding- Proverbs 3:5-6.

We are expected to put our trust in God’s love, ordinances, teaching; in his word and salvation. Prophet Jeremiah referred to God as the Hope of Israel; he said, ‘O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters.” Jeremiah 17:13

Hope in God does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us- Isaiah 49:23c; Romans 5:5-8. Therefore, if Christ is in you, you have the hope of glory- Colossians 1:27.

Those who live and die in Christ have the hope of rising again unto glory- 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.  However, those who die without Christ have no hope. For them is reserved everlasting burning in the blackest darkness- the Lake of Fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth forever- Revelation 20:15-20.

This is why the hope of the believer transcends this material world. Apostle Paul said, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable”- 1 Corinthians 15:19

If you are not yet in Christ, what are you waiting for? Run to Jesus today and put your hope in Him.

Prayer Nugget: Lord Jesus, I put my hope in you alone for the rest of my life.

Text: Mark 11:22-24

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

Yesterday, we identified Faith as one of the essentials in our relationship with the Lord.

To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval. Hebrews 11For example, Abraham believed what God said and it was credited to him as righteousness.

It was faith that made Abraham obey when God called him to go out to a country which God had promised to give him. He left his own country without knowing where he was going. It was faith that made Abraham able to become a father, even though he was too old and Sarah herself could not have children. He trusted God to keep his promise and God honoured his faith by giving them Isaac in their old age.

Jesus once said to his disciples, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have themMark 11:22-24.

The just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4. When God says something and you believe and act on it, you have demonstrated faith. To do otherwise is to demonstrate doubt and unbelief.

Faith is a spiritual shield that quenches the fiery darts of the evil one- Ephesians 6:16

Every child of God is able to defeat the world. And we win the victory over the world by means of our faith. Who can defeat the world? Only the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God- 1 John 5:4-5. Through the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, we can be made right with God and be restored to God’s original design for our lives. We must first place our faith in Jesus before we can fully access the power of God.

Prophetic Nugget: Receive the grace to be full of faith in Jesus name.

Text: 1 Corinthians 13:13

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

Apostle Paul identified three essentials of the Christian faith, namely faith, hope and love- 1 Corinthians 13:13.

Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him- Hebrews 11:6

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God- Romans 10:17.

So the mother of faith is the word of God. When we hear the word of God and understand it, faith is born and as the word takes root in our hearts, faith grows.

Faith is in levels. There is little faith and there is great faith; there is weak faith and there is strong faith.

So the more of the word of God you expose yourself to, the more opportunity you give to your faith to grow and the more you will be empowered to please God.

The more the faith, the less the fear. Fear and faith cannot cohabit. Faith is light, fear is darkness.

When faith comes, fear disappears.

Prayer Nugget: Father, I ask for grace to daily delight in your word so that my faith can grow in Jesus name.

Text: Matthew 6:31-34

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

There was the story of a corporate executive manager who was always met by a preacher for an appointment to hear the word of God, but he always declined because he was “very busy” and had no time. Then one day he got a call from his doctor that he has been diagnosed of Cancer and that he had only a few months to live.

Suddenly, the one who had always complained of ‘no time’ had plenty of time to listen to the Word of God. May you not get to that point where God has to use a terminal disease or calamity to get your attention in Jesus name.

What exactly are people busy doing that so chokes up their time? Jesus described those distractions as life’s worries, riches and pleasures- Luke 8:14. They are worldly pursuits borne out of anxieties of what to eat, or drink, what to wear and where to live- basically the cares of this life..

In Matthew 6:31-34, Jesus described these as the things the pagans are always concerned about- things that our Father in heaven knows that we need. Instead of focusing on vanities, Christ taught that we are supposed to be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of us, and he will provide you with all these other things.

In Luke 12:15, the Lord went on to say , “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be.”

But godliness with contentment is great gain; for we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.- 1 Timothy 6:8-10.

Prophetic Nugget: Receive grace to pursue the Kingdom essentials in Jesus name.

Text: Luke 10:38-42

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

We all want many things but need only a few. The things you want can be done without but the things you need are essential to your survival.  In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of daily life only very few things are really needed for our spiritual and by extension physical survival.

According to today’s text, as Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42

So many today are so busy with the non-essentials that they miss the essential. When you call for Bible Study during the week, you will hardly see a good number of attendees. The excuses they give is busyness. They have no time for both personal and corporate Bible study.

Everybody is busy but you will create time for what is important to you. This is why the Twelve Apostles gathered all the disciples together and told them, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility (of food sharing) over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:2-4

Action Nugget: Don’t be distracted, focus on the essentials.

Text: Revelation 2-3

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

In his letters to the Seven Churches in Asia Minor, namely, Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and the Laodicean Churches (located in the modern day Turkey); Jesus made seven prophetic promises to all believers who overcome sin and its worldly passions.

Firstly, he said, “To him who overcomes (by active faith in Christ) I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God”- Rev. 2:7

Secondly, “He who overcomes (by active faith in Christ) shall not be hurt by the second death (Lake of Fire)” Rev. 2:11

Thirdly, “To him who overcomes (by active faith in Christ), I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”  Rev 2:17a

Fourthly, “And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations— ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’— as I also have received from My Father; and I will give him the morning star”- Rev 2:26-28.

Fifthly, “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels”- Rev. 3:5

Sixthly, Jesus Christ said, “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name”- Rev 3:12.

Lastly, the Lord promised, “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne”- Rev 3:21

The small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

May you overcome in Jesus name.

Prayer Nugget: Father, help me to endure to the very end and be counted worthy to reign with you eternally in Jesus name.

Text: Galatians 5:16-17

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

The Christian journey is warfare. That is why the Bible says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called…” 1 Timothy 6:12. Therefore every child of God must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier- 2 Timothy 2:3-4. But the comforting truth is that, in all things we are more than conquerors through Christ that loved us- Romans 8:37.

The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name- Exodus 15:3. He has promised to fight for you while you hold your peace- Exodus 14:14. All you need to do is to acknowledge your helplessness and lift your hands to the only one who can help your soul.

When you surrender your heart to the management of the Lord Jesus Christ, his Holy Spirit will enter your life and empower you to overcome.

This is why Apostle Paul wrote, “So I say, walk by the Spirit (be on the side of the Holy Spirit), and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” Galatians 5:16-17

The word of God is Spirit and life. To walk in the Spirit is to live your life in obedience to the word of God; while to walk in the flesh is to live according to your feelings, desires and worldly passions.

The world is passing away, and the evil passions of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. The choice is basically yours, but you will account for any choice you make.

Prophetic Nugget: Receive grace to walk in the Spirit in Jesus name.

Text: Romans 7:18b-20

Author: Pastor Adedeji Fadehan

Exhortation:

Is it your desire to do the will of God but discover that you just can’t no matter how hard you try? The fact that you are willing to please the Lord is a first step in the right direction. But you need to go beyond just being willing.

Willingness must be combined with obedience for you to hit the mark- (Isaiah 1:19). The blessing is in the doing beyond just willingness.

The word of God says, “Do not deceive yourselves by just listening to his word; instead, put it into practice. If you listen to the word, but do not put it into practice you are like people who look in a mirror and see themselves as they are. They take a good look at themselves and then go away and at once forget what they look like.

But if you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice—you will be blessed by God in what you do”. James 1:22-25 (GNT)

There is a subtle war going on between the flesh and the spirit. The battle field is the human mind. The struggle continues throughout life but the winner of this invisible conflict depends on whose side you are on.

Apostle Paul summarized the warfare as follows:

“For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Romans 7:18b-20

It is a spiritual war which can only be won by the help of the Spirit. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth- John 4:24

Prayer Nugget: Father, please help me to back up my willingness with obedience in Jesus name.
